Joan Hand has been practicing architecture in California, Oregon and Missouri since receiving her Master of Architecture degree from UCLA in 1982.  Acting as Project Architect, she has worked on buildings such as:  The Moreno Valley Mall (Jerde Partnership, Los Angeles); The Modernization of the Anaheim Convention Center (HNTB, Los Angeles); And The Lewis & Clark College Centers for the Arts and Humanities (THA, Portland, Oregon).

Hand Architecture was established in 1999.  Since that time Joan Hand has designed commercial and residential projects in Portland, Oregon and Springfield Missouri.  She has acted as Architect and General Contractor on three homes in Springfield.  As a consultant for other firms, she works on a variety of large and small projects in the Springfield area.
